Drake shout it out Grammy Awards in a post on social media, expressing his support for the artists nominated that night
As the Grammy Awards kicked off on Sunday night (February 4), Drake is expressed his feelings about the ceremony, making it clear that he wasn't going to pay attention. In a post on his Instagram Stories, he shared a quote from his acceptance speech during his last appearance at the awards in 2019. “All you incredible artists, remember this show is not the facts, it's just the opinion of a group of people ( whose) names are being kept secret (you can literally Google it),” the rapper wrote in a text caption above the clip. “Congratulations to anyone who wins anything for Hip-Hop, but this show doesn't dictate st in our world.”
His feud against the Grammy Awards and the Recording Academy began during that 2019 performance where he won best rap song for “God's Plan.” “We play in a sport based on opinions, not a sport based on facts,” he said at the time (at one point, his microphone appeared to have cut out). “It's not the NBA … This is a business where sometimes it depends on a lot of people who might not understand what a mixed-race kid from Canada has to say … or a brother from Houston over there, my brother Travis.” Drake said. “You've already won if you have people singing your songs word for word, if you're a hero in your hometown. If there are people who have regular jobs that come out in the rain, in the snow, spend their hard earned money to buy tickets to come to your shows, you don't need that here, I promise you, you've already earned it.”
The Toronto, Canada native also skipped the 2021 Grammys after The Weeknd didn't receive a nomination that year. Drake was nominated four times at the 66th Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Performance for “Rich Flex” by Her loss joint album with 21 Savage, which was also nominated for Best Rap Album. His solo album from last year, For all dogs, was not submitted for consideration. Drake is currently on his own It's All A Blur: Big As The What nationwide tour, playing the second of two nights at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, with J. Cole. It will run through April 16, ending at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.
