They are still Young Angel and Young Lion. Ties to Young Money run deep, with Drake showing support for Lil Wayne after some in the hip-hop community were outraged Weezy was snubbed for Kendrick Lamar to headline next year's Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show.
6 God published a photo series of his mentor on his Instagram Story on Tuesday night (September 10), seemingly showing solidarity with Wayne snubbing the big game, which returns to the 'Uproar' rapper's hometown of New Orleans on February 9, 2025.
Drake offered no context for the photos — one of which is from the set of Weezy's “A Milli” video — but it's not hard to read between the lines.
There was much discussion about Wayne not being selected to headline the following year's Super Bowl Halftime Show. Members of the Young Money/Cash Money family, such as Nicki Minaj and Birdman, have voiced their opposition to the decision.
“To deny a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason than your ego. Your hate for BIRDMAN, Drake and Nicki made you punish Lil Wayne??!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!!!!! THE DOG?!!!!!!!!!!! Nola what's good,” Minaj tweeted in part.
No Limit Records boss Master P, Cam'ron and Mase also expressed their disappointment with the move to not give Wayne his flowers.
In an interview earlier this year, Weezy admitted that he wanted to get the call to perform at the Super Bowl in his hometown.
“I'm not going to lie to you, I haven't gotten a call,” he told YG's in February 4 Hunnid podcast. “But we're all praying, keeping our fingers crossed. I work hard. I'm going to make sure this next album and everything I do is killer, so I'm going to make it really hard for them… I just want to make it hard for them not to highlight the boy.”
