Dua Lipa is said to have known she was headlining this year’s Glastonbury festival for two years.
The 28-year-old singer is topping the bill of the Worthy Farm event alongside Coldplay and SZA, 34, and has now revealed she was approached by email long ago – but had to keep quiet about her booking.
She told Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show: “I’ve known for a little while… I got an email at the end of my Future Nostalgia tour.
“It’s been the biggest secret. Biggest secret ever.”
The Daily Star reported she has known about the booking since 2022.
She added to 50-year-old host Zane: “I didn’t even tell (my) band until we were coming towards the end of writing the new album, and I was just like, ‘I’m going to perform quite a few of these songs on the record at Glastonbury and I’m going to be headlining.
“And I think they felt the energy.
“That fuelled me in a different way to make this album… thinking about what it’s going to look like on stage.”
Dua went on about how she is going to be overwhelmed with emotion when she plays Glastonbury: “Every time I think about performing these sings, it’s like a rush of electricity goes through my body.
“I feel like I’m going to get teary talking about it.
“Glastonbury is just the festival – that one – I’ve loved going just as a fan. And to go up on that stage and perform… it’s all very surreal, it’s my biggest dream.
“It’s headlining Glastonbury.
“When I’m in the studio and I’m writing, the first thought that comes into my mind is, ‘What is this going to sound like at Glastonbury?’ For me, it’s the most beautiful experience that I’ve ever had.”
