Guns N' Roses bandmates Duff McKagan and Slash have collaborated with Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian on a new charity single titled “I Can Breathe.” It is the last charity song released under the Gibson Band name.
A year ago, Serj Tankian of System of a Down and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath appeared on the Gibson Band's first charity single with Gueikian, a track called “Deconstruction.”
The new song, “I Can Breathe,” features McKagan on lead vocals, Slash on lead guitar and solos, and Gueikian on rhythm guitar and piano. The lyrics were written by McKagan.
All proceeds from the song will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)via Gibson Gives.
“It was a great pleasure to work with César and his entire team on this song,” McKagan said in a press release. “The musical bent and progressive rock of this great epic pushed me in a completely new direction. I love challenges and César achieved it! Most importantly, being of service to mental health issues and awareness is very important to me right now. Let's rock!”
Slash added: “Cesar and Duff came to me with a really cool piece of music. “I loved the idea of the riff and Duff’s voice, so I felt at home on the song.”
Gueikian stated: “Guns N' Roses had a profound influence on me and my guitar playing, so having the opportunity to write and record this song with Slash and Duff is a dream come true, and it's an honor to call them friends and associates. “
