Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan has defended the band's three and a half hour show.
The “Welcome To The Jungle” rockers typically play about 24 songs a night and go on for three-and-a-half to four hours, and the 59-year-old joked that while he “would like to play shorter,” going the distance is the right move.
Speaking to 'heavy music' on YouTube, he said: 'Man, Axl [Rose] loves – you know, I think it's – hell, it's like, what songs do you put out, you know, if you wanted to play sooner?
“Don't get me wrong – my body would love it if we only played two and a half hours. Most bands play two hours. Two hours and 10 minutes or something, and we play three [hours and] thirty [minutes].
“I would like to play sooner because, simply, I would be less sore the next day. But there are too many songs and people stay for the whole thing.
“Nobody's leaving, so it's like, 'Okay, they've got to enjoy this.' We'll put out 'Coma' or 'Locomotive.'”
He admitted he sometimes has to make sure frontman Axl is “sure” about the length of sets.
He added: “We play other songs too. I really like playing 'Bad Obsession', you know? 'Pretty Tied Up.'
“It's so great… We're going to play it all. “Inconsiderate [Life]” and “Shadow [of Your Love]'.
“I look at Axl and I'm like, 'Yeah, sure, man? Because we have to play again in a few nights.” “
However, Duff praised the longevity of Axl's “monster”, pointing out that the “Paradise City” legends only had to cancel one show, which was due to the singer's vocal chords being swollen.
He said: “He'll still want to do the show and the doctor will be, like, 'you could ruin your voice forever.'
“We canceled one [show] in Glasgow a few years ago. We made it.”
