Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson opens up about how he once wanted to be a country star, his next dream gig with Chris Janson and more.
Tetris Kelly:
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a true country fan, but did you know he's also a country singer? Dwayne Johnson may have appeared in Chris Janson's music video for “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get,” but he's not there just because of his good looks. He also has a talent for singing.
Dwayne Johnson:
I can tell you that I was surprised and blessed with an open invitation from him and the Opry to join them on the Opry stage, something I can't wait to do. That's a dream come true.
Tetris Kelly:
He told us how he almost became a country singer when he was kicked out of Hawaii as a teenager and discovered the country scene in Nashville.
Dwayne Johnson:
I was at Piggly Wiggly singing, like I didn't care, and I was singing a Hank song. I'll never forget, a woman came up and looked at me. And I thought she had done something wrong. She says, “Oh, I just stopped by to see who was singing.” And she says: “Do you sing? You?” And I'm 15 years old and I said, “No, I just love to sing. I love the country.” She says, “You should go down to [Broadway]. That’s where all the singers are.” And I said, “Okay.” And that's when I started hanging out on Broadway, trying to get a gig at those honky-tonks because I had this dream in my head that I was, or the illusion, that I was a country music star.
