Dyson's new OnTrac headphones have up to 55 hours of battery life — and they're customizable

Dyson is taking another look at headphones, and they might just rival those from Apple, Bose and Sony. The Dyson OnTrac headphones, announced on Thursday (July 18), feature up to 55 hours of battery life, high-fidelity audio, and customizable ear cushions and outer caps.

The latest edition to Dyson's growing line of luxury headphones is equipped with two high-capacity lithium-ion batteries centered on the headband for even weight distribution. The battery takes up to three hours to fully charge and lasts up to two weeks, even with ANC enabled (you can toggle the ANC setting on and off by pressing either the ear cap or the top of the headband).

The OnTrac headset will retail for $499.99 Dyson.com – much cheaper than the Dyson Zone headphones. No need for an air filter this time, the OnTrac offers a more traditional design with a custom Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) algorithm that uses eight microphones and cancels up to 40dB of unwanted noise along with 40mm drivers with “advanced audio signal processing” and The speaker is angled at 13 degrees to “ensure every note or word is delivered accurately,” according to Dyson.

OnTrac headsets are available in four colors: CNC Aluminum, CNC Copper, Ceramic Cinnabar and CNC Black Nickel. The removable caps retail for $49.99 and come in a variety of colors including Chrome Yellow, Prussian Blue, Ultra Blue, Ceramic Cinnabar, CNC Copper, Thick Titanium, Dark Iron, Pink Oyster, and Blue Ceramic.

Reducing noise through internal anechoic chambers and expert engineers, we applied and further expanded our sound knowledge to develop Dyson OnTrac headphones. I had the chance to test the OnTrac headphones during a press preview in London, and one of the most attractive features is the adjustable ear cuffs and one-touch ANC function. The headphones are incredibly comfortable — the cuffs are made of “super-soft microfiber and high-quality foam” per Dyson — and easy to use.

With over 2,000 customizable color combinations, you can mix and match the OnTrac design to your liking. The outer caps and ear cushions are made from “super-soft microfiber” with “high-quality foam for superior comfort and acoustic sealing,” according to Dyson. Another feature that caught my interest was the multi-turn arm design. I also like the idea of ​​the battery being in the headband, which ensures balanced weight distribution, says Dyson.

The OnTrac offers sonic perspective and a level of comfort, and while I didn't get a chance to test the 55-hour battery (yet), it was easily one of the headphones' most appealing features. For comparison, the battery in Apple's AirPods Max lasts up to 20 hours, the Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra headphones offer 24 hours of battery life, and the WH-100XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones last up to 30 hours.

The OnTrac headset is the latest in a list of new releases from Dyson, which includes the Dyson Nural Supersonic Hair Dryer and Dyson Vis Nav Robot Vacuum.
