For the seventh time in his career, Ed Sheeran has been named the most played artist in the UK according to The guardianSheeran, 33, topped the chart for music played on UK radio, TV and in public spaces for the seventh time in nine years in the list compiled by music licensing company PPL.
Sheeran's latest accolade also kept girlfriend Taylor Swift from her first UK most-played title, with the singer coming in at No.2 after reaching No.10 in 2023's ranking .Taylor's second-place finish matches her previous high of 2015. Swift is in the middle of her summer Eras tour, which will take her to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on Tuesday (June 18).
“Thank you for naming me the most played artist for last year. Thank you to my team, not just for me, but for all the other artists you work with – I'm delighted to receive this recognition,” Sheeran said in a statement.
Behind Sheeran and Swift was Dua Lipa, whose single “Dance the Night” from the Barbie The soundtrack helped boost her ranking, with Calvin Harris close behind at No. 4 and David Guetta rounding out the top five. Sir Elton John took sixth place, just ahead of the only band on the list, Coldplay, followed by singer Tom Grennan on his first appearance, with Harry Styles at No.9. Thanks to the Celebration world tour, Madonna returned to end the year at No. 10.
