Eddie Vedder has spoken out about Pearl Jam's recent health scare, which forced the band to cancel a handful of tour dates in London and Berlin last week.
During the encore of Pearl Jam's comeback concert in Barcelona (get tickets for upcoming shows) here) Last Saturday, Vedder described the “terrifying” illness the band suffered between performances of “Just Breathe” and “Wasted Reprise.” Watch fan-filmed footage of the speech below.

“I can only say that last week was like a near-death experience,” Vedder said emotionally. “It was very uncomfortable and scary. It felt like bronchitis in my chest. I felt like maybe I couldn’t breathe and maybe I wouldn’t make it through the night and maybe I would have to go to the hospital.”
Vedder added that it affected “some of us,” continuing: “You realize how precious this life is. How lucky we are to have been living on a planet where we can go and play for amazing people like the people in this room tonight. So it was a moving experience. I won’t forget it for a long time. And we won’t forget this night for a long time.”
Pearl Jam continued the tour to present their new album, Dark matterwith a second night in Barcelona. They are scheduled to return to the United States for more shows in late August. Get your tickets here.
