Techno star Eli Brown plays sold-out shows to thousands of fans around the world every week, but when it came to launching his own clothing line, the DJ was determined to play it small.
Brown's new clothing line, “92 thing,” drops this week in a limited run of just 200 units, making it a worthy acquisition for fans of the British musician and producer. For Brown, wanting to keep the first release familiar was a conscious decision to create something special for his fans. “I never followed the rules,” he says Rolling rock. “When I'm creating – whether it's my music or now streetwear – I'm always trying to find ways to separate myself from what everyone else is doing in that space and really make it my own. Really: “I'd rather be a little disruptive to deliver a final product to my fans that feels genuine about who I am than just follow the status quo because it's an easier route.”
Inspired by the 1992 rave scene in Brown's hometown of Bristol, England, the 92 Thing launches with two bold and graphic tee styles that speak to the “era of resistance and rebellion,” according to Brown, who cites British acts like the Chemical Brothers and the Prodigy. as influences. “My career was literally born that year in those underground spaces, and the experiences I had continue to inform my productions to this day,” he says.
Brown has a busy summer ahead of him, with a full slate of shows booked across North America and Europe (tickets%2Fartist%2F2656422″ target=”_blank”>see tickets here), but says he feels as excited about 92 Thing as he does about his music. “With music, I always like to start with a solid source of inspiration whether it's an initial idea, a sample, or something that provides a starting point to build off of,” he explains. “With the 92 Thing, it was pretty much the same.”
Fans can shop Brown's apparel now at 92Thing.com. Ahead of his headlining gig at EDC Las Vegas Rolling rock asked Brown to share some of his own but essentials and tour items, which you can buy online now.
