The singer caught the flask after appearing drunk at a Parton tribute show in Nashville in January
Elle King has released her first public comment about her controversial performance at a Dolly Parton tribute concert in January. The singer was criticized for appearing drunk on stage at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, where she belted out the lyrics and told the crowd: “Hi, my name is Elle King and I'm being booed.”
On Sunday, King posted a short video of her running stairs in an arena with the caption, “Oh no it was my human presence.” But it's what she wrote over the video that directly confronted the fallout from her performance. “To everyone sending me love because I'm human and I've already talked to Dolly,” she wrote, “I love you.” She went on to mention the harsh comments she received in her DMs: “To everyone who told me to do myself. I love you too.”
Parton herself was unimpressed by King's Ryman performance, which was billed as a celebration of the “Coat of Many Colors” singer-songwriter's 78th birthday. “Elle is a really great artist, she's a great girl,” Parton said Furthermore on February. “He's been going through a lot of rough stuff lately, and he's had a little too much to drink. So let's forgive it, let's forget it and move on, because it felt worse than anyone ever could.”
After the performance of Parton's tribute, King postponed a series of shows. He returned to the road in March for a set at the Extra Innings festival in Tempe, Arizona, and an opening slot on Chris Stapleton's All-American Road Show at Petco Park in San Diego. King is currently in the UK performing at the Country to Country festival.
