Eminem has announced his new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), which will be released this summer.
A trailer for the album was revealed Thursday evening during the NFL Draft. Eminem himself appeared at the draft alongside past and present members of his hometown Detroit Lions.
In the trailer, a true crime reporter discusses the death of Eminem’s longtime alter ego, Slim Shady. “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies,” he says.
The clip gives way to Eminem’s longtime collaborator, 50 Cent, who says, “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.” The reporter adds, “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
Eminem appears at the end of the trailer, saying, “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”
Dr. Dre first let it slip that Eminem would be releasing a new album during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last month. Dre also revealed that he “got songs on it and it’s fire.”
Eminem released his last album, Music to Be Murdered By, in 2020.
