As Taylor Swift once said, this is why we can't have nice things. Weeks after Emma Stone went viral for fondly joking that the pop star was an “a-hole” for applauding her at the 2024 Golden Globes, the actress has now said she's done making fun of her longtime friend in public.
“I will definitely never make a joke like that again,” he said Variety for her cover on Wednesday (February 21) with Poor director Giorgos Lanthimos. “I saw headlines that really took it out of context.”
Pointing to herself, Stone added: “What a dope.”
The interview follows La La Land The star won best actress at this year's Globes for her portrayal of Bella Baxter Poor. At the Jan. 7 ceremony, Swift stood and cheered enthusiastically for Stone as she accepted the honors.
Speaking to the press later that night, Stone was asked about the 'Anti-Hero' singer's standing ovation. “What a hole, am I right?” she replied, earning laughs from Lanthimos and her co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe and Ramy Youssef.
“I've known her for almost 20 years, so I was very happy that she was there,” Stone added at the time. “She was also nominated tonight, which was great, and, yeah, what an a-hole!”
The “Karma” singer was up for top film and box office achievement that night, thanks to her successful Eras tour concert film. However, Swift lost to Greta Gerwig Barbie.
