It's been almost eight years since Empire of the Sun, the electropop duo behind “Walking on a Dream,” released a new solo single. But that all changed today after they released a euphoric song, “Changes,” ushering in the couple's exciting comeback through ecstatic soundscapes and dreamlike vocals.
Channeling that same joyous, billowing energy, Empire of the Sun stays true to its signature style as it moves into a new chapter. It's an exploratory adventure for the successful duo, whose narrative comes to life in “Changes.”
“'Changes' was a breakthrough song for us,” said Empire of the Sun's Luke Steele. “It felt like the moment of clarity when it became clear that we were in a new era, our time of rebirth, the next chapter of the Empire.”
“'The Changes' represent the shifting sands of time, empires rise and fall but the sun will continue to shine,” added Nick Littlemore. “Come once again to the world we have created, delve deeper into it, and be rewarded with its ever-expanding story. One and all is invited to explore the new era.”
The song is accompanied by a stunning music video, which was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Michael Maxxis over three weeks in Thailand. Maxxis worked closely with the band to discern the direction and aesthetic of the video, according to a press release.
