End Overdose is leading a high-tech bid in the fight against drug overdoses, introducing a cutting-edge electronic training tool that promises to have a significant impact on EDM events.
The non-profit organization, one of EDM.comTop Industry Leaders of 2022 says the initiative will “revolutionize overdose response training” at the concerts and festivals where its teams provide education. Dubbed “Narcats World,” the e-learning resource comes amid a growing need for medical preparedness at large-scale events, where limited on-site resources can leave attendees vulnerable.
Harm reduction remains one of the most current flashpoints in the electronic dance music community and its festivals, which continue to come under intense scrutiny due to their inextricable link to drug use. Synthetic opioids like fentanyl are the leading cause of overdose deaths in the United States, according to the US Drug Enforcement Administrationciting CDC data.
End Overdose believes “Narcats World” will democratize training by making it more accessible while improving retention and readiness. Its implementation is designed to educate more ravers while increasing their confidence in handling overdose situations in real time.
The organization says “Narcats World” can increase retention by up to 75%. They have gamified the platform to offer rewards to participants and incorporated narrative storytelling and “multi-sensory” specifications, such as haptic feedback, to keep them engaged.
It is important to note that the e-learning tool is still in its development phase and End Overdose has not formally implemented it in events as of this writing.
