Flatbush Zombies member Erick the Architect has teamed up with funk legend George Clinton for a new single titled “Ezekiel's Wheel.”
In anticipation of Erick's upcoming debut solo album, I've never been here before, “Ezekiel's Wheel” demonstrates his style, combining soul, funk and hip-hop influences with fluid verses inspired by his upbringing attending church with his family in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Between Erick's verses, Clinton chimes in with anchor lines like: “And there it is/ That's the way the story goes/ Do your best/ And then have fun.”
The single features a beat produced by Matt Zara and arrives today alongside a visualizer consisting of outtakes from Erick and Clinton. Watch it below.
So far, Erick has shared three other singles from I've never been here before. In July 2023, she released the lead single “Parkour,” which featured production by James Blake. In October, she shared “Ambrosia” with Channel Tres, and the following month she released “Shook Up,” featuring Joey Bada$$ and FARR.
Other clues I've never been here before will feature Westside Boogie, Kimbra, Lalah Hathaway, RÜDE CÅT, Boy Boy and Pale Jay, with production from Blake, Linden Jay, T Minus and more. The full album will be out on February 23, with pre-orders in progress.
Last year, Erick's Flatbush Zombies bandmate Zombie Juice shared his own debut solo LP: April's Love without conditions. Last November and December, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Better deadThe hip-hop group embarked on a series of shows to celebrate the mixtape.
As for Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic wrapped up its 2023 tour last month. On December 17, Amp Fiddler, the band's longtime keyboardist (and mentor to J Dilla), died at age 65.
