Last night, he dropped a new song featuring Drake and left everyone confused.
Snowd4y, a comedian and parody rapper from Toronto, released a song on SoundCloud called “Wah Gwan Delilah” that purportedly featured the Canadian superstar. No one thought it was Drake. Some even assumed (and hoped) that it was AI. But, no, it actually sounds like Drake is singing his heart out with a wild Toronto accent on the audio.
Last week, Snowd4y was on Richdiet pod and was asked what he would do if Drake asked to jump on his song. His response was either hilarious or ridiculous, depending on how seriously you take this whole situation.
Drake's friend and collaborator Hush then confirmed the track, posting this screenshot on IG and saying it was “one about town.”
The good news is that the Drake Stimmy check is still valid these days. As of publication, the SoundCloud link is approaching 250,000 plays and counting, and most of the newest comments on Plain White T's YouTube post of the song it's based on — the 2007 Billboard Hot 100 emo-pop ballad “Hey There Delilah” — ask who Snowd4y and Drake brought to the video.
Rap Twitter naturally had a field day with this song, with the main takeaway being that after losing the battle to Kendrick, Drake is now just generally losing it — out of control and leaning toward his Toronto.
It's getting dramatic out there, man.
See this. The reward is worth it.
Drake has the game in tatters right now, and not in a good way. It's an interesting strategy from the OVO camp. Rapping over “BBL Drizzy” on a Sexyy Red feature as his comeback song was bold and smart — and I showed him love on it — but this song is where I struggle. Parody song or not, can you imagine 50, Jay or Nas playing like this fresh off a rap battle?
Should we expect today's greats to uphold the principles of hip-hop established by those who came before them? On the other hand, rap and hip-hop are as fun as they are free — should we let Drake have fun with that stuff by following his L? Or should we be disappointed that he doesn't take it as seriously as we'd like?
These are the questions we must ask ourselves. The song is funny, so I don't want to be too “old man yelling at the cloud” about it. However, something inside me tells me she should wear it Style Wars and try to get back the crown.
