Welcome back to Fan Chant, a weekly column for K-pop fans, followers, and newbies. Today let's talk about NCT Dream's new project.. PS: If you haven't already, you can always subscribe Head over to my complimentary newsletter to get Fan Chant delivered straight to your inbox every week!
If there's one thing I've learned about those guys in NCT, it's that they're out here saying things. (This amazing tiktok summed it up much better than I could).
This week, NCT DREAM released a new album, titled DREAM LANDSCAPE ( ), which the members describe as an opportunity to explore a heavier direction than their signature bright sound typically allows. While DREAM LANDSCAPE ( ) delves into the “universal concerns and struggles of young people,” that does not mean that the optimistic and playful nature of the group is erased. Far from there.
So, to celebrate the new release from MARK, RENJUN, JENO, HAECHAN, JAEMIN, CHENLE and JISUNG, let's delve into some of the best food and drink references featured on the album, ranked by how tempting they sound this lovely Wednesday. And if you missed it last year, you can also revisit my chat with NCT DREAM during their first US tour, where MARK shared how he likes his eggs in the morning.
Beer – “Breath”
“I'm always drinking beer,” JISUNG tells us. And while I love a good cold beer too, it's currently 9am, so beer is last on the list. What if we started with mimosas? It might be easier for me to address it at this exact moment.
Popcorn – “Smoothie”
Ok, okay, they actually say “go ahead and make some popcorn,” but popcorn is inevitably the end result, isn't it? This is towards the end because I simply ate too much popcorn already this week. (troublemaker It was great though, highly recommended!)
Strawberry and Sweet Cinnamon – “Smoothie”
Okay, it was Lana Del Rey! Who in NCT DREAM do you think would be most likely to describe her life as “sweet as cinnamon” or spend a moment in the passenger seat of the car while the rain drips from the window and feel completely confident in her status as main character? Anyway, it's a bright spring day, so strawberries and sweet cinnamon sound like a delicious mid-morning treat.
Carrot Cake – “Carat Cake”
I know, I know, this song is about diamonds… but what else am I supposed to imagine when they repeat the phrase “carat pie”? This weekend is Easter; Obviously, carrot cake sounds amazing and appropriate.
Smoothie – “Smoothie”
Without notes, it sounds absolutely delicious. They mention “syrup and sugar” as the main ingredients, which works for me, as I prefer a smoothie with a little honey and a splash of almond milk. Go ahead, guys.
ICYMI: Interview with DAY6
Last week, pop-rock band DAY6 joined the column to break down their new album song by song. You can read his ideas here.
Recording song of the week:
So this isn't a K-pop song, but SHAD credits BTS as one of their main inspirations. “I Like You The Most” has been on repeat in my house this week; It's very catchy and fun, and the chorus makes me very happy.
