The world lost an icon in Carl Weathers last week, but fans will still get to see the late actor one last time, thanks to a FanDuel Super Bowl ad.
It has been detected Variety, FanDuel says it will continue to air its Super Bowl spot with Carl Weathers. Ahead of this weekend's big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, the sportsbook is teasing its big in-game spot starring Weathers alongside NFL retiree Rob Gronkowski.
The teasers follow the NFL champion as he prepares for Kick of Destiny 2, where viewers can watch him attempt a 25-yard field goal, and America can bet on whether he'll either miss or make it.
Last year, Gronkowski missed the kick, but in the teasers, he gets some encouragement from Weathers in the teaser where he picks up the NFL analyst on a motorcycle with a side frame.
There will be some changes in the commercial
Variety reports that after initially saying it would make adjustments to the commercial, FanDuel says it will run the ads and make some changes to make it appropriate. “The family has been very supportive that they would still like to see Carl at work,” Andrew Sneyd, FanDuel's executive vice president of marketing, said after consulting with Weather's family.
Sneyd continues, “We've got to change what we're doing at the Bowl. The live event itself continues as is. Rob will kick the field goal and get even more inspired to make it. He really enjoyed meeting Carl and found him to be such an upbeat and energetic person.”
“We had made a master. One is processing if he kicks, and we have processing if he misses. That content that we had in those masters would no longer be suitable for us,” adds Sneyd. “Since the news of Carl's death, we've been working with editors to help us get back to something that makes sense.” FanDuel, he adds, is in contact with Weathers' family “to make sure they're comfortable.”
And he continues, “Such work was difficult. We see the edits with tears. We really enjoyed the short time we had to work with him. He is a wonderful man, and truly an inspiration, and he had such a positive outlook on the world. We want to make sure we try to treat this moment with the respect it deserves.”
