Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Strangers’ tops this week’s new music poll.
Music fans voted in a poll published on Friday (January 5). Advertising signchoosing the Scottish musician’s new single as their favorite new music release of the past week.
“Strangers” garnered 65% of the vote, beating out new music from The Last Dinner Party (“Caesar on a TV Screen”), Green Day (“One Eyed Bastard”), Gabby Barrett (“You’re My Texas” ), The Game and Big Hit (Paisley Dreams), and others.
Capaldi is in ballad mode on “Strangers,” which sees him return to the familiar territory of his breakthrough single “Someone You Loved,” which spent three weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2019.
The singer’s signature tone, tinged with heartache, shines through on the new track as he sings about his departed lover. He also pulls double duty and rekindles his ongoing feud with Liam and Noel Gallagher as he mentions him and the object of his affection who once bonded over a mutual dislike of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” (“You say you hate that song… my dear, you’re not alone”).
Capaldi announced in a message on New Year’s Eve that he will release an extended version of his second album, Torn by the desire to be sent from heavenon January 1st. The expanded set includes five additional songs.
“Before my decision to go away for a while, I always hoped to release an extended version at some point!” wrote the singer on Instagram. “After a few discussions about whether or not it was the right thing to do, I decided it would be a shame to have these five extra songs, which are so incredibly special to me, sitting on my hard drive. to never see the light of day.”
Following ‘Strangers’ in the poll is The Last Dinner Party’s heartwarming ‘Caesar on a TV Screen’, which garnered almost 12% of the vote. The song will be featured on the UK alt-rock quintet’s debut full-length, Prelude to Ecstasywhich is scheduled for release in February.
