Kendrick Lamar surprised the rap world by dropping another bombshell in Drake's direction with “6:16 in LA” arriving on Friday (May 3).
The Al Green-sampling Drake diss track has yet to hit streaming services and is currently only available on Kendrick Lamar's Instagram, but that didn't stop fans from going ballistic on Friday morning for the weekend.
K. Dot accuses Drake of having traitors within the OVO camp leaking information to the opposition while dropping names of 6 God affiliates like Akademiks and Zack Bia.
“Did you ever think that OVO worked for me?/ Fake bully, I hate bullies/ You must be a terrible person/ Everyone in your group whispers that you deserve it/ Can't Toosie Slide up from this one, is just going to come back to surface,” Lamar raps.
Fans, critics and others flooded social media with opinions on Kendrick's surprise attack, with “6:16” coming just three days after the scathing “Euphoria,” which served as the Compton legend's response to the diss ” Push Ups” by Drake.
“Kendrick don't give two shits about needing a club bander… That music rider. Underground rap fans heat,” wrote Hot 97 host Ebro Darden.
Another person greeted the Academy the name that fell on the tracks on both sides in the war. “The academics mentioned by both Drake and Kendrick Lamar on diss records is legendary. He is apart of HipHop history, even if you love him or hate him, this is objectively a win for independent media,” they wrote.
While Spotify Carl Cherry added: “Sometimes I hear people say that Kendrick is too highbrow and his lyrics are too hard to understand. I heard it a few times in the context of this battle. This is rap. You just have a low rap IQ.”
Some fans were left with their jaws on the floor after discovering that Taylor Swift's frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff co-produced “6:16 in LA.” (Drake slammed Lamar for working with Swift on “Push Ups.”) “So this track is literally Taylor Made Okay Kendrick I see you,” a the Drake fan said in X.
The debate over who will win the Drake-Kendrick war is sure to continue into the weekend as fans await the 6 God's next move – which is better his best move – in battle.
