Fat Joe sits down with Democratic House Leader Hakeem Jeffries for an episode Fat Joe speaks. A trailer was released on Tuesday (October 29), which finds the Terror Squad boss preaching the importance of healthcare to the politician.
“The health problem in America, like we lost Frankie Beverly, Batman, Fat Man Scoop, Rich Homie Quan, rest in peace,” he said while referring to recent musicians who have passed. “Freddie Jackson, the R&B singer, said he had kidney problems. You know, Black and Latino, man, we really need to take care of our health as much as possible.”
Jeffries believes that health-related issues stem from urban communities lacking access to healthier food options and high-quality healthcare, which can lead to disease plaguing the community.
“We have to deal with the problem of gun violence, but when you really step back, there are more people dying from lack of access to healthy food, lack of access to health care, and then what's that lack of access to a healthy diet in continues to yield, in terms of diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease, certain cancers, and then without access to health care to address these chronic, debilitating conditions, you have people dying prematurely,” he said.
Health care price transparency is a relevant issue for Fat Joe as he continues to advocate for US citizens while taking aim at price gouging drug companies. He previously pushed to help pass the New York Health Care Accountability and Consumer Protection Act;
Ahead of the 2024 election, as a Power to the Patients spokesperson, Joe worked with unions and workers to launch a PSA calling on elected officials to stop price gouging and “robbing us all.”
“[I] I also want to commend you for knowing your work in the health care field. The Health Care Transparency Act, incredibly important to get us to a much better place,” Jeffries told Joe. “You have people who have access to the affordable, high-quality health care they need. I often say when I'm back home talking to people about different issues, that in urban America and in the Black and Latino communities, especially in our communities, more people die from driving than from cars.”
The full Fat Joe speaks The episode will premiere on Starz on Friday at midnight ET. Look for Babyface to appear on next week's episode for an exclusive sit-down with the Bronx native in Los Angeles.
