British punk band Fat White Family release new album, Forgiveness is yours, this Friday via Domino. Now they've shared another new song from it, “Work,” via a music video. Check it out below, followed by two other recent singles from the album that we neglected to post about, “What's That You Say” and “Today You Become Man” (which has a music video that references The Verve's video for the “Bittersweet Symphony” ).
Frontman Lias Saoudi said of the song in a press release: “This melody and lyrics were written by Nathan Saoudi, with a little help from the indomitable Jess Winter. It became a bit of a production nightmare, like a serious graft. Anyway, it's one of @braindestiny's best. The idea for the video came from watching Rocky IV on the TV station at our family Christmas. Nothing brings people together like this Rock IV. How Stallone single-handedly takes down the Soviet Union. We can all learn something from this. I enjoyed it so much that I got into it Rocky movies in January. Most of the others are shit, but there's a scene in the third-Rock III—where Rock has to accept that he's lost it, he's grown decadent, delusional, loose… Apollo Creed (RIP) has to drag his ass to LA to train him the old way, the hard way, the way was… Between Both of these lessons one can learn about life, about ambition, about success being nothing but failure in drag… CC Wade was the obvious choice to direct this tribute. Is true. They are two people who allow whatever they are working on to completely absorb them. There is no limit at Haus CC Wade. No ceiling. No basement. No overhang. All in.”
Forgiveness is yours features “Religion for One,” a new song the band shared in December that was one of the songs of the week. When the album was announced in January, they shared its second single, “Bullet of Dignity,” via a music video (it was also one of the songs of the week).
The band's latest album, Surfing!, released in 2019 via Domino, which was their first for the label (and third album overall). It was our album of the week.
In a press release, Saoudi states Forgiveness is yours “It's about life as an eternal possibility… don't suspect anymore, but know that this shit is never going to get any easier… in fact, it's going to get a lot worse, your body will decay and the people you love will slowly -slowly Start dropping dead around you… but somehow, you've had enough of your expectations shattered so far in life, you're kind of okay with it… you accept it.”
