Mahashmashana, Josh Tillman’s sixth album, arrives in November
If you spent the remainder of your summer listening to Father John Misty‘s Greatish Hits album, surprise: Josh Tillman will be back with a new album this fall.
Mahashmashana, Tillman’s sixth LP, arrives on Nov. 22 via Sub Pop. To pair with the announcement, Tillman revealed “Screamland,” an awesome 7-minute scorcher that features Low‘s Alan Sparhawk on guitar. “Stabbing at the ashtray like it might give up the truth/Like it might finally confess who else you’re nearly faithful to,” he sings before the cathartic chorus (yes, there is some screaming).
Mahashmashana translates to “great cremation ground, all things put going thither” in Sanskrit. The album — which follows 2022’s Chloë and the Next 20th Century — was produced by Tillman and Drew Erickson, with executive production by Tillman’s longtime collaborator Jonathan Wilson. There’s eight tracks on the album, with the title track serving as the opener. The previously released “I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All” is also featured.
Tillman is currently on tour with Kacey Musgraves on her Deeper Well run, which concludes with two nights at L.A.’s Kia Forum on Oct. 3 and 4. He’ll spend spring 2025 on the road in the U.K. and Europe.
