Singer-songwriter experiments with Vocoder for first time on latest Undressed at the Symphony offering
Faye Webster continues to preview her upcoming LP Undressed at the Symphony with the new song “Feeling Good Today.”
The 90-second track — which was accompanied by a video shot by Pooneh Ghana and starring TikToker Lili Hayes, here wearing a Webster mask — finds the Atlanta singer-songwriter exploring the mundanity of day-to-day life through a warbling Vocoder.
“I’m gonna see my brother / He’s got a new girl / But he’s good at making time for me,” Webster sings. “I got paid yesterday / I’ll probably buy something dumb / Because I am pretty childish.”
Webster — whose last album was titled I Know I’m Funny Haha — added of the track in a statement, “I definitely think I turn to humor sometimes just for distraction almost. But a lot of it is just like the truth. Even if I’m saying it, I’m not really meaning to be funny. That’s genuinely how I feel, and I’m feeling good today.”
“Feeling Good Today” follows the singles “But Not Kiss,” “Lego Ring” with Lil Yachty and “Lifetime.” Undressed at the Symphony, out March 1 via Secretly Canadian, was inspired by Webster attending the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, in which she’d buy a ticket at the very last minute and feel anonymous in the crowd.
“Going to the symphony was almost like therapy for me,” she adds. “I was quite literally underdressed at the symphony because I would just decide at the last moment that that’s what I wanted to do. I got to leave what I felt like was kind of a shitty time in my life and be in this different world for a minute. I liked that I didn’t feel like I belonged.”
