The musician previously took down the footage of an entire project after it leaked online
FKA Twigs experienced a major change of scenery when she moved to Prague, where she encountered the key influence for her upcoming album: techno. In a series of Discord posts, the musician teased the project, which will mark her first since 2022 Caprisongs. “I moved to Prague a few summers ago, fell in love with techno,” he wrote. “The album is not techno, but the spirit is there.”
Explaining the record's tone, Twigs shared, “It's deep but not sad… I'm not sad anymore.” The announcement of new music, even just a teaser, is a positive development for the musician. In October, she revealed that dozens of her demos had been leaked by a hacker, leaving her to start over. “I got hacked, someone leaked 85 of my demos,” he wrote on Instagram Stories. “Good, no new music in a while.”
During the Discord pop-up, Twigs shared that she worked closely with British electronic musician Koreless on the upcoming record. She teased one of their collaborations at a Paris Fashion Week show last year. The musician added that while she hasn't listened to a ton of music creating her own, she recently joined the duo Two Shell.
With new music on the way, Twigs continues to wrestle with control of her narrative. Last week, he shared an emotional response to the UK's Advertising Standards Authority which banned Calvin Klein's campaign almost a year ago. “I don't see the 'stereotypical sex object' I've been labeled as. I see a beautiful strong woman of color whose incredible body has overcome more pain than you can imagine,” Twigs wrote on Instagram, sharing an image of the ad in which she is partially nude.
“In light of reviewing other past and current campaigns of this nature, I can't help but feel there is some double standards here. to be clear… i am proud of my physicality and hold the art i create with my craft to the standards of women like josephine baker, earth kit and grace jones who have broken down barriers of what it looks like to be empowered and harnessing a unique embodied sensuality”.
