The Blast reports that McVie died of a massive stroke after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. According to the singer's death certificate and will, obtained by The Blast, McVie was diagnosed with “metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin,” essentially meaning the cancer had spread throughout her body where no primary source or tumor could be detected.
Eventually, McVie suffered an “ischemic stroke” that caused her death. cancer is listed as the musician's secondary cause of death.
“On behalf of the family of Christine McVie, it is with a heavy heart that we inform you of Christine's passing,” her team shared on social media last fall. “She passed away peacefully in hospital this morning, Wednesday 30 November 2022, after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family. Please respect the family's privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to hold Christine in their hearts and to remember the life of an incredible person and respected musician who was loved worldwide. RIP Christine McVie.”
