Fontaines DC has signed XL for new album, Romancewill be released on August 23rd. It is the band's first LP produced by James Ford, who has recently worked with Arctic Monkeys and Blur.
In a press release, guitarist Conor Deegan said of the album's title, “We've always had this sense of idealism and romance. Each album takes more away from observing it through the lens of Ireland, as directly as Dogrel. The second album is for this passage and the third for Ireland in the Diaspora. Now we look where and what else there is to be romantic.”
Chatten went on to mention the dystopian anime's romantic undertones Akira as an inspiration. “I'm fascinated by that — falling in love at the end of the world,” she says. “The album is about protecting that tiny flame. The bigger Armageddon, the more valuable it becomes.” Other influences noted in the press release include Shygirl, Sega Bodega, A$AP Ferg and Prodigy.
Romance 2022 follows Skinny Fia. Chatten wrote “Starbuster” about a panic attack he had at the St. Pancras in London, according to a press release.
