The first trailer for the upcoming Investigation Discover documentaries Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV, dives into the complex legacy of Nickelodeon. The four-part series, premiering March 17, pulls back the curtain as former child stars and staffers detail the trauma and alleged abuse they say they encountered on some of the most popular children's shows.
The trailer for Quiet on set describes writer and producer Dan Schneider as “Nickelodeon's Golden Boy,” detailing his influence on sitcoms starring children and young adults with children as audiences. “For 20 years he shaped children's entertainment and culture. But this marked one of the darkest chapters,” writer Scaachi Koul explains in the clip. Schneider was involved in the creation and production of shows including; Zoey 101, iCarly, Victorious, Drake & Josh, Sam & Cat, The Amanda Showand more.
But as writer and producer Christy Stratton argues, “Working for Dan was like being in an abusive relationship.” Snyder's alleged mistreatment of cast members and employees on his shows is described as an “open secret” in the preview.
Behind the scenes, lawyers filed complaints of hostile work environments, gender discrimination and harassment. But as the trailer reveals that three child predators have allegedly worked on the network for different periods of time, it begs the question: “How safe can any child be in this environment?”
Figures in the trailer also highlight Brian Peck, who was convicted of sexually abusing a Nickelodeon child actor in 2004. Additional details are revealed about the police discovery of “treasures of child pornography” and storage bags with the names of different child actors.
