Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Saida new documentary from Jermaine Dupri, 21 Savage and Luther Campbell premieres on Hulu on Thursday (March 21).
The documentary shares the “untold story” surrounding Atlanta's popular parties that exploded in popularity in the 90s. Taking viewers back to the roots, the documentary describes how “Freaknik” began as a spring picnic created by Black students at an Atlanta HBCU in 1983.
“It's all educational. It's Black history for me personally,” Dupri said Associated Press. “For those who need that reassurance, I would never allow my name to be associated with anything that would put a black eye on Atlanta or do anything that I believe would set that culture back.”
Dupri, 21 Savage, Luther Campbell are executive producers on the documentary along with Terry “TR” Ross, Melissa Cooper, Alex Avant and Tresa Sanders.
“It's also a coming-of-age story,” explained executive producer Deshawn Plair CNN. “You could grow up, but you don't have that pressure of being in the spotlight, you don't have that pressure of having cameras all over you. I think it was such a black joy.”
The documentary features Killer Mike, 21 Savage, Lil John, Dupri, Campbell, Too $hort, Erik Sermon, Jalen Rose, Shanti Das, former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and more.
