What better way to Hallowicked than Key Largo, Florida emcee Darby O'Trill releasing his 7th LP? It appeared in the fall of 2018 from his full-length debut Blood, guts and a whole lot of lovewould continue to follow it Fester nearly a year later and working extensively with Chapter 17/Psychopathic Records' in-house producer Devereaux, bringing him into the cut to fully produce his 3rd album Scrappy with critical acclaim during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Darby's finally signed a 1 album deal with Lyrikal Snuff Productionz and fulfilled it over a year ago with Gorgewhich is a modern classic shit. Mutilate was a solid prelude to The Tombthe latter was even better. The official debut of the Darby C17 Creek became his best since then Gorge & had a feeling Garden he could fit them into the ranks.
“Diet Root Beer Shampoo” is a 100-second demonic trap opener that Devereaux of course took on talking about the Hell's Pit gate in his apartment basement, while “The Sound of Suffering Trapped Skin” works on some hi-hats & guitars that feel murderous. “Quit Lookin At Me, You're Making My Shadow Nervous” wants to know what the hell you want from another trap metal beat while Shaggytheairhead's “Hell Been Callin” & Mythic Mindz-produced “Hell Been Callin” regains its aura 10 Buds from this spring.
As for “Dick Down in a Bucket Fulla Beans,” we have Darby climbing further down the trap metal rabbit hole feeling the fire burn around him just before “Crooked Pastor Blaster” serves as the follow-up to “CPK (Crooked Preacher Killas )” of the Insane Clown Posse & he who dispenses original justice. The bassy 'Fiery Fish Pizza TMDWU' has some cool Memphis undertones throughout its head-talking feel, but then 'The Omen of the Body Bag' is another head metal trapper.
“Multicolored Mood Ring” keeps the heavy guitars and hi-hats in check reminding us all that life and death are alchemy, while “Blistered Hands Wipe the Sweat From My Brow” maintains a trap metal sheen that parallels the ” My Axe” by ICP except he refers to a shovel instead of an axe. Shaggytheairhead's sole production credit lands on Skull Bone Soccer' giving a typical trap vibe so Darby can warn his disgust, while the lively 'A Man Made of Scabs & Guilt' questions why he's even trying
Ouija Macc shows up for “Baptized in a Vat Acid” aggressively laying their opposition in the dirt while “Smokeless Tobacco Spit is Gross, Just Like You” goes back to trap metal to spit the bad shit. “Curse of the Ancient Skin Tags” hellishly suggests that a doomsday sign is near, while “The Burden of Being” remarkably combines trap metal and emo rap. “Close the Gate, Don't Let the World In” infamously wraps up C17's sophomore effort by saying he's dead.
Familiar with Darby since then Scrappyhas come a long way in these last 4 years & Garden much like this introductory body of work alongside Creek & of Gorge is further proven, except in Chapter 17, which incorporates a new generation of jugglers. It's more trap metal sounding than his previous material except for the emo rap undertones, clashing that style with horrorcore in a tasteful way.
