Kaleena Zanders, Glorified
After releasing the EP's three other songs over the past few months, Kaleena Zanders completes the project with the release of her title track, “Glorified.” A sparkling fusion of disco and soul, the song – like much of Zanders' work – features her powerful vocals as a sonic and spiritual centerpiece. The corresponding video manages to be both sexy and adorable. The artist is on tour with DJ Susan through the end of the year, with upcoming shows in Austin, Brooklyn and Denver. Glorified released via Helix Records.
Trustworthy person, 3 a.m. (La La La)
The overwhelming response to the Aussie act's third album so far has been one of general adoration and excitement for the way its dozen tracks capture the bright sound and cool spirit of the '90s rave world. Indeed, there are a lot of candy warehouse vibes – a sonic and modern aesthetic that is very popular in the current dance scene and which Conidence Man do with moxie throughout the project. But things get particularly interesting on 'Sicko', which takes a sharp turn away from Deee-Lite references and into darker, druggier, sexier Depeche Mode and INXS influences, with the group's Aidan Moore he finally admits 'I' so sick' as the song shifts gears again to ambient, off-hours. 3 a.m. (La La La) released on Casablanca Records.
Mau P, “Merther”
The Dutch producer samples Ini Kamoze's 1984 lead single “World a Reggae (Out in the Street They Call It Murder)” and effectively whips it into a tech house song, shredding Kamoze's vocals into a stutter and completely hearing the nose by adding some siren sounds. It works so well that Solomun and Michael Bibi have been washing it in their sets lately.
Mau P says that after testing the track on the road for a long time, “it's sick to put it out there with the legendary sample from Ini Kamoze's 'World A Music'. I didn't think this would be possible a few years ago, but here we are. My fans have also been asking for this one non-stop, so I'm happy that they don't have to keep listening to the copied versions online and can finally get the full finished version.” The track marks Mau P's first release on Defected Records.
Sebastian Ingrosso, “Flood”
Of the three members of Swedish House Mafia, Sebastian Ingrosso does the least amount of solo work, so anything new from him will naturally pique curiosity. His just-released single “Flood” delivers, with the 4:32-long track – a luxuriously long song in the world of two-minute tracks made for TikTok – unfolding in three movements, building from languid IDM to a theatrically leaning vocal isolation in peak heater. “It's been a long time since I've worked on something of my own that represents what I've become since then,” Ingrosso he wrote on social media. “I'm on a journey of inward travel, and this is one of the many stories I hope to tell.”
Polo & Pan, “Nenuphar”
The production of Polo & Pan has always set a mood of relaxing by the pool in a silk robe in St. Tropez with a cocktail in hand and not a care in the world. And so continues the French duo's latest, “Nenuphar.” The track was recorded in Mexico City, accompanied by multi-female collective IM YONI (Independent Musicians of Yoni, adding silky vocals over layers of percussion and strings. “Nenuphar” is out on Hamburger Records.
Honey Dijon, “Finding My Way”
Honey Dijon and Ben Westbeech reunite for the new 'Finding My Way', which comes from the latest edition of !K7's ongoing DJ Kicks series. Combining peace-seeking gospel vocals with a slowly unraveling house production (and a flute solo) the track has all the warmth and coolness that have made Honey a global star for centuries. “I'm a big fan of research,” she says of her collection for DJ Kicks, “So putting this collection together was basically about my experience on the dancefloor and finding gems that I wanted to present to people who might not be familiar or that they didn't even know existed.”
