This week in dance music: San Francisco's Portola festival announced a massive 2024 lineup, we looked at why artists are moving TikTok remixes from Spotify, Marshmello and Kane Brown made chart history with their track 'Miles On It” to become the first track to hit the top five of Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Hot Country Songs, Chicago has announced house music's 40th anniversary celebrations, Paramount+ has announced that a documentary about the Nova Music festival massacre will also come to the platform French electronic pioneer Jean -Michel Jarre appeared with Queen's Brian May in Slovakia.
And of course, here are the best new dance tracks of the week.
Peggy Goo, “Lobster Phone”
Weeks before the release of her debut album, I hear you, Peggy Goo delivered the project's fourth single, “Lobster Telephone.” Gou's favorite song from the 10-track album (according to a press release), the dreamy house production also serves as the spiritual and aesthetic center of the project, perfectly fitting the album's heavy 90s dance music influence. In her recent Advertising sign cover, Gu said it I hear you (out June 7 via XL Recordings) will be a hit for her if people hear it and 'feel' it. Exuding warmth, this looks a lot like the summer season to come.
Bebe Rexha, “Chase It (Mmm Da Da Da)”
Bebe Rexha debuted her latest track 'Chase' last month at Coachella, and today she delivers the song in its most complete form, via a slick (and pretty sexy) racing video shot between the LA River and a garage an engineer. The clip features Rexha and a crew of dancers showing off the pop-lock and wiggle capabilities of the song, which was produced by Chris Lake and Sammy Virji (who released their own collaboration “Summertime Blues” late last month ), along with Punctual and Marco Strauss. This dance-focused project comes as no surprise, given that Rexha has one of the biggest dance hits of recent years with her David Guetta collaboration “I'm Good (Blue),” which spent 55 weeks at No. 1 in Hot Dance/Electronic MUSIC TRACKS.
Shygirl feat. Danny L. Harle, “Encore”
“buy a drink, take a shot/ Pour some/ Lick it up,” Shygirl purrs on her latest, “Encore.” The track inspires a spirit of hedonism with both these and other mature-themed lyrics combined with a thick, shadowy electro production that pairs well with a music video that captures the type of late-night behavior the song is designed to soundtrack and to distract A collaboration with British producer Danny L. Harle, “Encore” comes from the upcoming Shygirl Club Shy Rmx EP, a compilation of her 2024 remixes Club Shy work from artists including VTSS, Logic1000, X-Coast and Fedde Le Grand. (Both projects are out via Why Music.) The London-based artist is on tour in the US and Europe this summer, and will hit the road with Charli XCX and Troye Sivan for their ravey 21 Sweat tour that kicks off in September.
John Summit & Sub Focus feat. Julia Church, “Go Back”
On his latest, 'Go Back', John Summit takes the progressive house style that has come to define his growing catalog and gives it a dose of d'n'b via the help of UK genre star Sub Focus. Together, the guys—along with South African-born, London-based singer Julia Church—create a track with the same ecstatic feel of other Summit hits like “Where You Are,” only made a little harder, higher BPM treatment through a final third that is fully dancefloor d'n'b. Through Summit's label Experts Only, the song is sure to be heard in his set at EDC Las Vegas this weekend, with the stop coming amid a heavy summer touring schedule and a sold-out appearance at Madison Square Garden on June 29 .
Fatboy Slim feat. Dan Diamond & Luca Guerrieri, “Role Model”
Fatboy Slim's 500th Southern Fried Records release is, fittingly, a Fatboy Slim track. Spicy and psychedelic in style of any given Fatboy Slim set, “Role Model” is all scintillating percussion, bells, sirens and vocals from Dan Diamond about behaviors that could be considered material role models, depending on the type of person. are you. All in all, they're high-quality dance cymbals with a no-nonsense attitude, classic Fatboy Slim performance. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Southern Fried Records released music from Fatboy Slim's Mighty Dub Katz moniker and over the years released an eclectic mix of music from artists such as Armand van Helden and the Crookers.
