“I hope people use it to make a living,” the Wu-Tang mastermind says of the August 30 album.
RZA will travel from Staten Island to symphony halls with the Wu-Tang Clan mastermind's upcoming instrumental album, A ballet through the mud.
The producer rediscovered the work during the pandemic when he revisited the lyrics he wrote as a teenager on “Shaolin.” RZA then transformed these early works into a ballet that tells a coming-of-age story about love and growth.
“I've been composing all my life, although at first I didn't know I was doing it. The inspiration for A ballet through the mud comes from my first creative output as a teenager, but its themes are universal — love, exploration and adventure,” RZA said of the project in a statement.
“I hope people use it to earn a living, to turn a trip to the grocery store or sharing a meal with loved ones into something magical, to be inspired and let their imaginations take them to a different chamber, Even for a moment. .”
In addition to his film scores over the years, RZA has also dabbled in symphonic music in 2023 with his orchestra 36 Chambers concerts. A ballet through the mud also originally performed in 2023 by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, which also appears on the studio recording of the work, composed and produced by RZA. The album will arrive on streaming services via the Platoon label on August 30.
