KISS recently performed their last concert, but singer and bassist Gene Simmons isn't ready to stop performing just yet.
Simmons has booked a date with his solo project, Gene Simmons Band, at the Brazilian edition of the Summer Breeze festival on April 26 in São Paulo. It is the first post-KISS activity for any of the band's remaining members, and the announcement comes just over a month after KISS pulled out of performing in human, non-avatar form following two concerts at Madison Square Garden.
Simmons' solo band last played in 2018 and typically features a set list comprised of KISS material written by Simmons and deep cuts. The band's current lineup is completed by guitarists Brent Woods (Wildside, Sebastian Bach) and Zach Throne (Corey Taylor) and drummer Brian Tichy (Billy Idol, Whitesnake, Lynch Mob).
For Simmons, solo exhibitions have offered a more intimate setting, and one where he can delve deeper into the KISS songbook.
“Making these concert halls smaller, holding 1,000 to 3,000 people, means that they fill up with real die-hard fans,” Simmons told The Associated Press. Chicago Sun-Times in 2018. “They don't want to hear the 'same old thing'. They want to hear nuggets, as they say. It's a hoot for me because I've never had the opportunity to do these things live. “It’s been a lot of fun.”
The festival appearance means Simmons could take his solo act on tour and continue to be an outlet for KISS's music until the release of the band's avatar version in 2027. Fans can also see KISS's founding guitarist, Ace Frehley, on his 2024 tour. .
Other acts taking part in the Summer Breeze festival, which runs from April 26-28, include Mercyful Fate, Anthrax, Within Temptation, Sebastian Bach and more. See the full schedule in the poster below.
