Mystic State continues to push the boundaries of bass music on their new EP, Yozakura.
On the four-track EP, the Bristol-based production duo undertake a surprising exploration of sound without losing their authentic style. The release arrives via Chord Marauders, a label they say has “helped inspire and shape” [their] “It sounds better than maybe any other record label.”
They start with “Xoyo”, where some haunting melodies immerse us in the chilling universe of Mystic State. The illusory track, which Mystic State called One of their favorite pieces of music they’ve produced, it evokes the feeling of exploring uncharted territories in our dreams. Entering “Yozakura,” a sense of tranquility and curiosity overwhelms the senses as expertly woven layers of synths and percussion elements pulse with palpable depth.
“The Perfection” immediately grabs our attention with pounding drums and a captivating beat. Its vocal sample strikes a chord before giving way to a soulful tear, showcasing the duo’s uncanny ability to bottle nostalgia in their soundscapes.
Distorted vocals and sounds of human commotion usher in the EP’s final track, “What We Have.” The song’s deep basslines build into a soothing vocal that monologues themes of togetherness and gratitude. Mystic State then hits us with a crisp break of rich percussion, weaving a narrative of thankfulness and shared emotion.
“This is ours Yozakura EP, which we feel is a true reflection of where our sound is currently at,” the duo wrote on Instagram“I hope there is something in this EP for each and every one of you.”
