Peacock has released the trailer for its upcoming documentary series, Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Storythat will go behind the scenes of the exploitative adult entertainment franchise and is announced to feature founder Joe Francis' first “in-person, in-depth interview with a journalist” in nearly a decade.
The documentary series promises to offer “a surprising investigative look at the life and career” of Francisco, whose Girls gone crazy The franchise peaked in the early 2000s. Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story features footage from journalist Scaachi Koul's official conversation with Francisco at his Mexican compound, which lasted nearly nine hours, as well as meetings with 11 former employees and survivors.
Here's the official tagline: “Before the spread of social media and easy access to online pornography, Joe Francis' multi-million-dollar investment Girls gone crazy The franchise, a series of tapes sold on late-night television that featured young vacationers baring their breasts for T-shirts and hats, had a shocking impact on popular culture. Including Francisco's first official, in-person, in-depth interview with a journalist in nearly a decade, as well as exclusive access to his former employees, enemies and survivors, Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story offers a striking and sweeping account of a man whose impact on American culture cannot be understated, whose alleged sins are numerous, and who now lives in exile on a sprawling estate in Mexico amid the rubble of his once-mighty empire.”
Francisco has been convicted of charges ranging from false imprisonment and assault to child abuse and prostitution. He also pleaded guilty to filing a false statement and bribery in 2009.
Produced by Maxine Productions and BuzzFeed Studios, the film directed by Jamila Wignot Girls Gone Wild: The Untold Story premieres December 3 on Peacock with three-hour episodes.
