Yesterday, Glass Animals announced details of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much, scheduled for release on July 19. The band’s new single, “Creatures in Heaven,” introduces the album and is available now. Look at the visualizer BELOW:
I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to 2020's acclaimed Dreamland, which sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and gave birth to the record-breaking song “Heat Waves” that became the biggest international success for a British band in almost 30 years. It was the first song by a British band since “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls in 1995 to hold the No. 1 spot for five consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The first song to reach No. 1 with a single writer and producer since “Happy” by Pharell. ”—which led to the biggest acts in the pop world, including Florence Welch, all wanting to work with Glass Animals frontman, songwriter and producer Dave Bayley. But the birth of I Love You So F***ing Much was an existential crisis. Dave struggled to make sense of this new global stardom, having seen it all happen while the world was on lockdown.
He says, “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you can't change that quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then they ask and expect you to be a certain type of person, a different person. But… I wasn't sure how. He confused me to the point of not knowing who he was or if anything was real.”
It took getting stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of the biggest storms in California history to bring that feeling to a full-blown existential crisis. In forced isolation, watching trees fall mountains and assuming “Death was approaching” Dave began asking questions about himself, the universe, and the human experience, i.e. love. Accepting himself as an introvert, Dave realized that “the human connection and love between us is so much bigger, more important, and more complex than anything else.” “Creatures in Heaven” is the sublime first look at ten intimate love stories set against the backdrop of the universe.
