Canadian post-rock collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor have announced the postponement of the remaining dates of their US tour following an illness in the camp.
The group's label, Constellation Records, confirmed the news on social media on Sunday (November 17), confirming that there will be information about rescheduled dates. The company also made a tagline to allay fans' fears, concluding with the phrase, “Everything's going to be okay.”
Affected shows include scheduled dates in Saxapahaw, NC. Washington, DC; Brooklyn, New York; Norwalk, CT; Boston, MA; and Philadelphia, PA from November 17 to November 24 inclusive. The band's tour is currently scheduled to resume on November 25th with a show in their hometown of Montreal.
News of the postponement comes just days after the band was forced to cancel dates in Nashville, TN. Knoxville, TN; and Atlanta, GA due to “zone health status”.
The group returned to the stage on Saturday (November 16) with a show in Charleston, SC, however fan reviews showed the band playing a somewhat truncated set. A statement from Constellation Records suggests that the canceled dates will hopefully be rescheduled for 2025.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor have been touring the world since February in support of their recently released eighth album. “NO TITLE AS OF FEBRUARY 13, 2024 28,340 DEAD.” The record is the fourth released since the band reunited in 2010, having originally split in 2003 after nine years together.
Their first album since 2012's reunion “Hallelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!became their highest charting record in the US, reaching No. 45 Bulletin board 200, and also saw the band win the 2013 Polaris Award.
In a statement after their win, the band explained that they will donate their entire $30,000 prize money to establish and fund a program that will provide musical instruments to inmates in Quebec, “if they need them.” The band also used the statement to criticize the award's corporate sponsorship, in addition to its very existence amid the world's “terrible malaise”.
