The Goo Goo Dolls apologized to fans on Tuesday (December 3) after announcing they were forced to cancel a planned string of headline shows in South Africa after singer John Rzeznik was hospitalized with pneumonia.
“We are devastated to be postponing our shows in South Africa. This country means so much to us and we were so excited to make more memories with you,” they said in an Instagram post that included a video of Rzesnik from his hospital bed. “Unfortunately, my doctor recommended rest and recovery. Thank you for your understanding — it will be worth the wait when we return in March 2025!”
The Dolls were due to perform in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria this week, shows which have now been rescheduled for late March 2025.
“I'm really sorry I can't be there but I ended up going to the doctor and I have pneumonia and they checked me out in hospital. I'm stuck here for a day or two. But we're working to get back there as quickly as we can,” Rzeznik said in the video. “I'm really sorry we couldn't do that. I apologize that this happened.”
The rescheduled dates: Cape Town (March 25), Durban (March 27) and Pretoria (March 29). All tickets for the original dates will be valid for the rescheduled dates, with the band saying ticket holders will receive instructions on how to confirm attendance or request a refund shortly.
The band's next scheduled appearance is a Dec. 14 concert at Naples, FL Live Fest 2024, followed by a Jan. 4 stop at the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York before beginning a February-March run of shows at Australia.
