Welcome to history, Green Day. The pop-punk trio celebrated a major career milestone this week when their 1994 debut studio album Dookiecertified double diamond. With this honor, the group's major label became just the 13th album ever to receive an RIAA certification for sales of more than 20 million units in the US, joining such iconic LPs as Michael Jackson. Impressive workAC/DC's Back to Black, Led Zeppelin IV, The BeatlesPink Floyd's The Wall and Shania Twain Come Upamong others.
The band was presented with the award by Warner Records and their team at Crush mgmt at their sold-out show at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California last Saturday. In an Instagram post earlier this week, singer Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool proudly showed off their Diamond Awards backstage at Sofi and thanked their diehards for helping them make history.
“Thank you to everyone who has loved this album as much as we have over the past 30 years and to all of you who have made our dreams come true,” they wrote.
Green Day are celebrating their 30th anniversary Dookie — as well as the 20th anniversary of their beloved 2004 politi-punk concept album American Idiot — on their sold-out Saviors tour stadium tour throughout the summer. The explosive two-hour concerts open with a set of 15 songs Dookie standards like “Longview,” “Welcome to Paradise,” “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around,” followed by a mini-set of other classics and a final blitz. Stupid favorites like “Holiday,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Jesus of Suburbia,” the title track, and “Holiday,” among others.
The concerts, which include a Borsch Belt-style dance interlude from Cool as well as a giant inflatable airplane flight amid plenty of pyro and other spectacular effects, will take place in Australia in 2025 for a run of three Marches. home shows with AFI opener.
