The stupid american Deep cuts will be on the set for the band's upcoming tour, but the Anaheim crowd got a special sneak preview Tuesday night
Green Day's pop-up show at Anaheim's House of Blues on Tuesday night left their set list a complete mystery. The concert was announced with only 24 hours notice, with no previous performance last month for the audience to base their expectations on. The surprise set allowed the band to unexpectedly revive two stupid american deep cuts for the first time in almost 20 years.
The discography part of the set list started with something of a sham. Green Day opened with “Give Me Novacaine,” which they last performed in 2017. They followed the record with the two songs that follow it on the album's official tracklist: “She's a Rebel” and “Extraordinary Girl,” which did not have been performed by the full band since 2005. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong last performed them solo 14 years ago.
The Anaheim crowd was also the first to see Green Day's latest album Saviors are performed from top to bottom. This meant live debuts of “Saviors”, “Goodnight Adeline”, “Coma City”, “Corvette Summer” and more.
The show acted as a test run for Green Day's upcoming tour. The Saviors The tour will find the band running across both stupid american and Dookie in their entirety every night. “What a fucking time it's going to be,” said Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt. Rolling rock earlier this year. “We've never done anything like this before. And there's a very good chance we'll never do it again.”
Speaking about the specific format of the set list for their debut album, Dirnt added: “We've still got to put our heads down and do some real work to figure it out. Before every tour, we do a lot of pre-production, we think a lot about how it should look, feel and sound, because it really matters to us. That's the fun, but it also keeps us on our toes.”
