Gus Walsh is the son of Minnesota Governor and VP candidate Tim Walz. The 17-year-old won the hearts of millions when he showed raw emotion during the Democratic National Convention, clapping “That's my daddy!” during his father's speech on Wednesday night (August 21).
While the goodwill was already flowing, Gus Walz's legend only grew when many learned that as a teenager he was diagnosed with a non-verbal learning disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. As you might guess, the Walz family has been nothing but supportive, effective People magazine“It took time, but what became so immediately clear to us was that Gus's condition is not a setback – it's his secret strength.”
However, people on the conservative right proceeded to show their asses on social media and actually mocked Gus Walz for daring to show emotion during his father's shocking moment when he accepted the VP nomination. The worst of the bunch was easily Ann Coulter, who wrote “Talk about weird…” as the caption of a photo of Gus in tears. Of course, Coulter eventually deleted her tweet after massive backlash, but nothing is ever erased on the Internet.
Coulter was no anomaly, with many troglodytes co-opting her nonsense with similar attacks. But despite Elon Musk's X becoming a cesspool of hate, the overwhelming response has been nothing but support and love for Gus Walsh and his family. Social media is full of people trashing the attacks with accounts of their lives with neurodeviant children and while downplaying the lack of human dignity Coulter and her ilk routinely display.
