Gwen Stefani has revealed she almost pulled the plug on her romance with Blake Shelton.
The 55-year-old singer began dating country singer Shelton, 48, in 2015 and they tied-the-knot in 2021.
Stefani was in the process of divorcing her first husband, Gavin Rossdale, 59, with whom she shares three children when she grew close to Shelton while they worked on the talent show The Voice.
Reflecting on the start of her relationship with Shelton, and how it almost didn’t get off the ground, Stefani told People, “We had just met, and it was chaos. Both of our lives were in complete turmoil, all over the ground. Nothing could save us at that point.”
She confessed, “There was a point where I was like, ‘I can’t even talk to you. This is insane. I already have enough problems. This is not happening anymore. We’re not going to text or nothing.'”
Shelton was divorcing his second wife, Miranda Lambert, when his romance with Stefani began – and he was first married to Kaynette Gern from 2003 until 2006.
While Stefani was unsure of her new romance, she explained she was won over by Shelton’s music.
The Don’t Speak singer revealed, “I think he really wanted to impress me, because he doesn’t really write songs as much as he used to.
“And I love writing songs. That’s everything to me. If I want to feel like I have any kind of purpose or any kind of value or anything, it’s about writing a song. That’s where I get my fulfilment.”
