Halsey has confirmed she received Britney Spears’s approval to sample her song Lucky.
The Without Me singer, who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns, took to Instagram earlier this month to share a snippet of a song titled Lucky.
The preview revealed that Halsey had interpolated Britney’s hit track Lucky, which was originally included on the popstar’s 2000 album, Oops!… I Did It Again.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday, Halsey responded to a fan who had asked whether she had sought Britney’s permission prior to recording.
“Yes of course!” they wrote. “I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without her blessing!”
Lucky is set to drop on 26 July.
Previously, Halsey posted a sneak peek of the tune on Instagram and credited Britney for inspiring her career.
“When I was 5, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me. 24 years later, these words hit different. love you forever,” the 29-year-old wrote.
Meanwhile, in a separate X post, Halsey offered some insight into the inspiration behind their new music.
“I wrote a lot about what I was going through,” she commented. “I felt like I couldn’t tell anyone, though it was mostly my choice to not. but the weight of it all and looking at my life wondering if I was happy with who I was. While simultaneously changing against my will.”
Halsey has not yet confirmed when their fifth studio album will be released.
