When Halsey released her new song “The End” on Tuesday (June 4), she wrote on Instagram, “in short, I'm lucky to be alive.” A day later, the artist revealed the details of why: They were diagnosed with Lupus and a rare T-cell disorder.
Halsey began her post on Wednesday (June 5) with a long caption for her carousel, thanking fans for their support of the new track. “I realize everyone is catching on to the news I've been holding back for a long time and wasn't sure how much I wanted to share. You've all been so kind so I want to share a little more,” they wrote before revealing their diagnoses. “In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both are under management or in decline. and which I will probably have for the rest of my life.”
The Grammy-nominated artist revealed that things were “rocky” at first, but with the help of her doctors, she managed to get things under control. “After 2 years, I feel better and more grateful than ever to have music to turn to,” concluded the “Without Me” singer. “I can't wait to get back where I belong: With all of you [silver heart emoji] Singing and screaming my heart out.”
According to National Institutes of HealthLymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs) are diseases in which there is “uncontrolled production of lymphocytes causing monoclonal lymphocytosis, lymphadenopathy and bone marrow infiltration” and occur in people who have a compromised immune system. A lymphocyte is a type of white blood cell “made in the bone marrow and found in the blood and lymph tissue,” National Cancer Institutewith the T type helping to 'control immune responses' as well as destroy cancer cells.
Halsey has been open about her health struggles in the past. The artist previously discussed their battle with endometriosis and in 2022 opened up about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Sjögren's Syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and POTS diagnoses.
The “I Am Not a Woman, I'm a God” singer confirmed on June 3 that her fifth studio album is on the way. “There is so much I'm going to reveal on this record, but first you need to know some of the history,” Halsey wrote in a letter posted on her website. “Well, before the chaos and confetti of big singles and album releases, I just have to tell you, my friend, why it all matters this time.”
