Scottish musician Hamish Hawk has announced a new album. A steadier handand shared his first single, “Big Cat Tattoos,” via a music video. A steadier hand is due out on August 16 via Fierce Panda. Check out the single below, followed by the tracklist and album art, as well as Hawk's upcoming tour dates.
Hawk said of the new song in a press release: “'Big Cat Tattoos' is just one of the great unspeakables that make up the new record and is the birthplace of the album's title: 'A Firmer Hand.' Unbeknownst to me, I'd been building up a nasty arsenal of great unspeakables over the past few years, and the album became a place where I could unload them, and hopefully lay them to rest.
“I've tried to avoid cleaning things up at the time of writing things, I've crammed into a warts and all approach. But don't be fooled, “Big Cat Tattoos” is all about it. Our hero takes a few jabs nice and early, and lands a few clumsy jabs, but in the end we witness nothing more than a minor distinction. It's bitter, inappropriate and downright embarrassing. However, it has a definite beginning.”
A steadier hand is the sequel to 2023 Angel Numbers.
Hawk had this to say about the album: “Writing this album, I opened my closet and out came a skeleton. What connects all the songs is a sense of the unspeakable, whether from guilt, shame, repression, embarrassment, silence, whatever. I realized: I'm going to say these things, and not all of them are going to make me look good. The album had so many demands, and it just delivered on it.
“Once I had given up on the idea, I thought I should stick with it. I can't hide anything from it. I can't clean them all for consumption. It felt uncomfortable for me – and that's exactly how it should feel. That's a really strong position.”
