Hard Quartet – a new group consisting of Stephen Malkmus, Chavez's Matt Sweeney, Dirty Three's Jim White and Cairo Gang's Emmett Kelly – have shared their debut single. The new song is called “Half of the Earth', and is accompanied by a claymation music video directed by Eyedress. Check it out below.
Malkmus takes the lead vocals on “Earth Hater”. With him singing and the fuzzy filter that the rest of the Hard Quartet cover an otherwise impressive indie-rock song, it should be quite familiar to fans of Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.
Hard Quartet have also announced their first live shows, which are scheduled to take place this autumn with support from Papa M, Weak Signal and Tubs. The band will debut in Los Angeles on October 10, followed by concerts in New York and London. A press release notes that Hard Quartet will “tour extensively in 2025.” For now, check out the group's full list of dates below.
