Hardwell is planting a fusion of beats and flowers in the heart of Amsterdam after an honorary tulip was named after the DJ, his team says. EDM.com.
In commemoration of Amsterdam's National Tulip Day, Hardwell kicked off the Christmas festivities to kick off the city's most vibrant time of the year. During the January 20th celebration, a new variety of tulip called “Tulipa Hardwell” was named after the Dutch dance music icon.
With its bold color, the flower appropriately symbolizes not only Hardwell's heritage, but also his enduring influence on the electronic dance music community.
“I am proud of my Dutch heritage and, as such, I am truly honored to have a tulip named after me,” Hardwell said in a statement shared with EDM.com. “The flower is, of course, an icon of the Netherlands, but also a symbol of happiness, love, good luck and the power of the rhythm of nature. Therefore, I am delighted to be part of the connection of positive vitality from dance floor to the joyful energy of a tulip for 'Let's Dance!' this year. “The theme of National Tulip Day. “I hope this new 'Hardwell' tulip is a positive reminder of the music that unites us and those moments on the dance floor we live for.”
According Amsterdam Tulip Festival, the 2023 edition of the event attracted more than 18,000 attendees from around the world. 2024 marks the 12th anniversary of the festival, where the theme “Let's Dance!” It couldn't have been more appropriate.
“It's a very good reason to pay tribute to Hardwell with his own tulip,” added Arjan Smit, president of Tulip Promotion Netherlands. “He is one of the most popular DJs in the world and his shows, like the tulips, are full of energy. The tulips even have the unique ability to “dance” a little in the vase. They continue to grow for a while, and each flower turns in the direction it wants.”
