HBO has tapped a pair of Succession alums for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Francesca Gardiner has been named the writer/showrunner and executive producer, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes and serving as executive producer.
Besides Succession, both Gardiner and Mylod have extensive experience working with the cable network. Gardiner was a writer for His Dark Materials, while Mylod has also helmed episodes of Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and Entourage.
“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years,” reads the official logline for the show. “Each season will bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed the show’s first season is currently targeted to premiere on Max in 2026.
